Contrary Opinions I Have That Don’t Make Sense

contrary-opinions-i-have-that-dont-make-sense

I have come to realize that, as logic-minded as I think I am (or, as I want to be), I am entirely non-logic-minded. What I mean is I have a few beliefs that aren’t based in sound logic, but rather in emotions.

Allow me to give you a few examples. I think that porn should be legal, but not kiddie porn. However, if a regular movie has a scene of simulated child sex (obviously not a hardcore scene since this is just a regular movie, not a porno) I think that that should be perfectly legal. Now, think about it. Does holding both of those positions at the same time make any sense whatsoever? I think not. But yet, those are my positions.

Here’s another example: I think it should be perfectly legal to poke someone on the shoulder with your finger as long as you don’t hurt them and you don’t do it an annoyingly amount of times. Afterall, it is just one of your body parts touching someone else’s body part. However, I don’t think it should be legal to poke someone in the vagina with your finger (unless they consent to it), eventhough that is, again, just one of your body parts touching someone else’s body part. It should at least be considered sexual harassment, if not rape. Clearly, holding both of these positions at the same time is contradictory.

Obviously, both of these examples (and many more like them that I can’t think of at the moment) represent how illogical and emotion-driven I am. Usually, when I think about situations like these for awhile, I come to the logical conclusion about the question of legality and morality. And, maybe one day, for these examples, I will. But, until then, they just confuse the hell out of me.

They make perfect sense - you just have failed to define what it is your opinion is correctly. Re-define what your opinions are and it will make perfect sense to you as well.

Got something to say?
