Contrary Opinions I Have That Don’t Make Sense
April 15, 2008
I have come to realize that, as logic-minded as I think I am (or, as I want to be), I am entirely non-logic-minded. What I mean is I have a few beliefs that aren’t based in sound logic, but rather in emotions.
Allow me to give you a few examples. I think that porn should be legal, but not kiddie porn. However, if a regular movie has a scene of simulated child sex (obviously not a hardcore scene since this is just a regular movie, not a porno) I think that that should be perfectly legal. Now, think about it. Does holding both of those positions at the same time make any sense whatsoever? I think not. But yet, those are my positions.
Here’s another example: I think it should be perfectly legal to poke someone on the shoulder with your finger as long as you don’t hurt them and you don’t do it an annoyingly amount of times. Afterall, it is just one of your body parts touching someone else’s body part. However, I don’t think it should be legal to poke someone in the vagina with your finger (unless they consent to it), eventhough that is, again, just one of your body parts touching someone else’s body part. It should at least be considered sexual harassment, if not rape. Clearly, holding both of these positions at the same time is contradictory.
Obviously, both of these examples (and many more like them that I can’t think of at the moment) represent how illogical and emotion-driven I am. Usually, when I think about situations like these for awhile, I come to the logical conclusion about the question of legality and morality. And, maybe one day, for these examples, I will. But, until then, they just confuse the hell out of me.
If Your God was Real, Where Would It Leave Me?

Hypothetically speaking, if your Christian god was real, where would that leave me?

The Myth of Self Sacrifice
November 12, 2007
We have been told all of our lives that any level of sacrifice is honorable, and leaders always portray people that sacrifice their lives for others as being the ultimate heroes. Many people have bought into this programming for several reasons. For most of us, our genetic propensity along with social training influences us to be decent and even protective of other humans, including strangers, but sacrificing one’s life comes almost entirely from self/social programming. It has been in our mythos and stories probably starting back since prehistoric times. People in power or positions of authority are the most effective at pushing the myth.
the Mistory Channel
November 4, 2007
I have been meaning to blog about this topic for a long time now, so it’s good that I get this off my chest. The History Channel isn’t a bad channel, by any means, as far as TV channels go. It often has some very interesting, educational programs on it. However, I do have a beef with it.
Moon-Landing-Deniers and Intelligent Design
October 27, 2007
Just recently, I learned that there are a group of people who deny that Neil Armstrong (or for that matter anyone else) ever walked on the moon. In fact, they say that we have never even landed on the moon! This is a very intriguing belief as it is not widely held.
Better Off Without Religions. I Choose My Own Morals.
October 26, 2007
I believe we’d be way better off without religions or mysticism of any kind. I take responsibility for my life and for deciding what is right or wrong in my life and that is completely devoid of any religious influence. Just because I think that murder and dishonesty are wrong for me, and major religions kind of teach that (but fail miserably in their actions), that doesn’t mean my morals stem from any religion or made-up god.
Idiot in the Post Office

Idiots & Religion
Standing in line at the Post Office here in Gulfport, Mississippi became a bewildering moment that will not exit my head. In this moment, I was subjected to a stupidity that will go unmatched for a very long time. It was stupidity that you would only read about and have to shake your head and read again. To have it said to you is another level of amazement that cannot be described.
Schooled By An Idiot
October 11, 2007
Someone started a thread in the imdb.com message boards titled: Thank God I’m NOT An Atheist. Naturally, this irked me. I felt it to be well within my rights to respond, but I was tired and instead wanted to poke a jab at the thread-starter. Then, some mental midget decided to try to ’school’ me and another Atheist - with an argument that was incredibly stupid.
ALL Mysticism, including ALL Religions are Potentially Dangerous
October 9, 2007
“How can you say the atrocities of ALL religions? Isn’t that being too general, dismissive and closed minded about potentially good belief systems? It sounds as if you don’t respect people for their beliefs.”
I respect most people but that does not mean I have to respect what they believe. I respect people’s freedom of choice, but I do not have to respect what they choose. Do you really respect a belief that tells the believer to kill non-believers or to treat women as second-rate citizens? Probably not, but you get my point.

Fine & Dandy… Maybe
October 8, 2007
Anytime a group of people are willing to stand out on the street somewhere spewing forth their thoughts, it’s a sure sign that they are delusional wackos. From religious zealots to 9/11 conspiracists to Anti-Bush folks, they’re all a bit loose in the brain.
